Sept.8,2024 8:50pm - Update: The US Forrest Service will address the fire tomorrow, Monday, Sept.9,
We had a very productive meeting at the Cold Creek Firehouse yesterday with 18 residents in attendance. Thank you to everyone who attended. We met our new coordinator, Nikhil Narkhede, from the Nevada Department of Forestry, and his area administrator, Eric Antle. They were here for a conference in town, and made time to drive up to our Cold Creek community to meet everyone and to listen to people's needs, comments, and concerns. They had a chance to visit the structure fire, recognizing both the volunteer fire department's swift efforts in controlling the fire and the resident's efforts in reducing the available combustable fuel (through vegetation removal) which both contributed to the containment. If you haven't attended a Firewise meeting yet, and are able to do so, please come to our next meeting in late October, early November to get plugged in to community fire prevention efforts and valuable information.

You may have noticed 2 new signs as you drove home today, having successfully met the requirements as a Firewise Community, we were sent 2 signs to post for our community! We'll be having a Firewise Community Meeting next week, Wednesday, August 7th, 4PM at the Cold Creek Fire Station. We will have the new Fire Adapted State Coordinator, Nikhil Narkhede here to speak to us briefly, then walk or drive through the community for those that want to share hazards, or mitigation work completed. Everyone from the Cold Creek community is welcome!
Nevada Department of Forestry has offered free fuel reduction services for residents of Cold Creek Canyon. To schedule clean up on your property, please contact:

We held an interagency meeting on site in order to discuss a plan to protect the ponds from recreational damage and improved stream flow to the lower pond. The benefits for this plan will be improving wildlife habitat and preservation of the existing flora and fauna in Cold Creek.
Thank you for responding to the recent mailing. Nevada Community Management will be doing a 3rd and final mailing soon, so if you haven't voted yet, please do so asap!
YOU CAN CAST YOUR VOTE BY SENDING A QUICK EMAIL TO OUR MANAGEMENT COMPANY HERE:
Simply include: NAME, ADDRESS, "YES" OR "NO" VOTE TO SOLAR PROJECT.
Thank you to everyone who responded to the recent mailing and posting here of ballots for the proposed solar system project. We are about 75% of the way there, and we need more of you to turn in a ballot in order to proceed with the project. This will give you a level of protection and independence against rising fuel costs, and the unfortunate possibility that a fuel truck would not be able to reach our community due to a weather event, natural disaster, etc.

Congratulations to our Cold Creek Community for being recognized as the 1st Firewise community in Southern Nevada! A big Thank You to all of our volunteers and participants who made this possible! We received this news today from the administration at Firewise USA with the support of the Nevada Division of Forestry, Clark County Rural Fire Department, and the US Forest Service.
"Congratulations Cold Creek Canyon Community on successfully completing the criteria to become a nationally recognized Firewise USA® program participant!
It is with great pleasure that we welcome Cold Creek to the growing number of Firewise sites, where residents throughout the nation are working to reduce their wildfire risks." -The Firewise USA Team
Official Community Certificate
We will be receiving signage like this one to be displayed in our community.
We had a good meeting at the fire station yesterday with regard to the new solar project we are currently voting on as a community. There were several good questions and points made.
Q: How long will it take to pay for itself?
A: Estimates are approximately 5 years based on current diesel prices.
Q: Will the system have a warranty?
A: The components each have extensive warranties and tech support available from the company.
Good Point: Not only will using solar create independence, save money, and only be operated when we turn the pump on, but in case of a road washing out due to a storm or other catastrophic event, we will have an independent source of power, and not have to rely on a delivery truck to bring fuel to us, without solar power, we could face having to shut off our water in such an event.
Comment: Several people commented that they had not received their ballots. If you have not received one, please contact Martin at Nevada Community Management, 702-222-2391. You may vote one time per property. We need more ballots to be turned in to go ahead with the project, these can also be done via email for your convenience.
